Glenn Maxwell struck the fastest century of the World Cup, while David Warner hit a second successive ton as Australia thrashed the Netherlands by a massive 309 runs on Wednesday. Australia's win was the biggest in the World Cup in terms of margin of runs and second biggest in the ODI history. Maxwell (106 off 44 balls) blew away the Dutch attack to score his century off just 40 balls, while Warner struck 104 off 93 balls to power Australia to 399 for eight after opting to bat. In the process, Maxwell bettered the earlier record of South Africa's Aiden Markram, who had smashed 106 off 49 balls against Sri Lanka at the same ground here on October 7. Maxwell hit nine fours and eight sixes during his whirlwind knock. Steve Smith also made a fine 71 off 68 balls, while Marnus Labuschagne scored 62 off 47 balls. Logan van Beek (4/74) and Bas de Leede (2/115) shared six wickets between them. Chasing the huge total, Netherlands looked never in the hunt as they were dismissed for a paltry 90 in 21 overs. Vikramjit Singh (25) top-scored for the Dutch. For Australia, Adam Zampa (4/8) picked up four wickets, while Mitchell Marsh (2/19) scalped two.
Really happy, complete game. To put 400 on board and then defend well, couldn't be happier. Crazy innings. I think we both contributed equally in that hundred partnership (chuckles). Fantastic innings, the cleanest hitting I've seen. We played the style we liked to. Please with Smithy getting runs. We were aiming for powerplay wickets, bowled quite well without a lot of luck. Zamps with another four-fer. They (New Zealand) are a really good side.. Big game in Dharamsala. It's the World Cup and we are in a good space, can't wait to get there. (Areas to improve) I don't think we have totally nailed the 50 overs with the bat yet.
They are a quality side, we should have been better today. Execution (what could have been done better with ball). You miss by fractions and you get out of the park. Full credit to the Aussies. We got back in a bit there with 10 overs to go. Maxwell got going and we couldn't stop him. Pretty nice wicket here and ball travels so quickly. Those two (opening batters) were awesome for us for the last 18 months and one of the reasons why we are here so we back them all the way. Just touch on things to improve and move on quickly from this and prepare ourselves for the next game.
It was a special day for him (Maxwell). The rock the cradle celebration was special as well. We spoke about it during the IPL, it is about timing and rhythm. First game in Chennai always challenging, need time to get used to wickets here. Going back to basics, be nice and still. I know I have the ability to bat in these conditions and it's about backing your skill. I ran a 2 for my mate (for Steve Smith), he nearly ran me out (laughs loudly) I will remember this for a long time. I pride myself on my fitness. Kohli does it as well. Running as hard as well for your team-mate.
Glenn Maxwell smashed the fastest hundred in the history of the 50-overs World Cup as Australia thrashed the Netherlands by 309 runs in what was their third successive win of the tournament on Wednesday. Eighteen days after South Africa's Aiden Markram smashed a 49-ball hundred at the same Arun Jaitley Stadium against Sri Lanka, Maxwell took nine balls fewer to bring up his century. The all-rounder produced a blistering 106 off 44 balls and opener David Warner made 104 as Australia racked up 399-8 after electing to bat. The five-time champions then returned to bundle out their opponents for 90 in 21 overs, subjecting the Dutch to the biggest defeat in the tournament's history.
I was just trying to give ourselves a good platform at the end. You can certainly cash in on this ground with bat (batting first towards the end) and it seams under lights. Nice to get some rhythm finally in the tournament. Huge confidence booster. Some doubts do creep in when you are consistently not making runs. Hopefully I can ride forward from this. Pretty much the perfect game with bat and ball for us. Three wins now and certainly starting to get that momentum as a team.

Feels pretty good, I was not feeling well, wasn't expecting much today, cleared my head. The situation when Davey and Greeny got out, had to rein myself in. Patty was good as well. Even if they are banging it into the wicket, I feel I have enough time to go after it. And when they are bowling quick, my hands have to be faster. Just generally try to get it over the infield. They were outstanding (Netherlands fielding), they saved certain boundaries in the first 25 overs. It was a rock-hard outfield and they did so well. The ball seems to travel here, hopefully we get through the top order and put pressure on their middle order. Also put run-rate pressure. Nice to have the kid here - it's been a while.
Australia's Glenn Maxwell on Wednesday hit the fastest World Cup century off just 40 balls in the match against the Netherlands in New Delhi. Maxwell's knock, laced with eight fours and eight sixes, bettered the record of South Africa's Aiden Markram who blasted a century off 49 balls against Sri Lanka earlier in the tournament at the same venue.
Australia batsman Marnus Labuschagne changes his batting helmet during the match. Australia must be expecting another solid partnership between Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner.
