India vs Australia 1st T20I Highlights: Surya, Ishan, Rinku power India to two-wicket win in high-scoring thriller

AUS vs IND 1st T20 Live Updates: Skipper Suryakumar Yadav led from the front in the company of Ishan Kishan to hand an inexperienced India a thrilling two- wicket victory over Australia in the first T20 International of the five-match series in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Chasing a mammoth 209-run target, Surya scored 80 off 42 balls, while Kishan made 58 off 39 balls to take India home in the final ball.

Towards the end, Rinku Singh (22 not out off 14 balls) delivered the finishing touches with a six to take India home.

India-origin leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha (2/47) picked up two wickets for Australia.

Earlier, Josh Inglis smashed his maiden century in the format to power Australia to 208 for three after being sent into bat. Inglis smashed a fiery 110 off just 50 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and eight sixes to propel Australia to 208 for three.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav shrugged off the disappointment of a World Cup final defeat with a captain's knock but it was Rinku Singh's composure that took a young Indian team to a thrilling two-wicket victory in the opening T20I in Visakhapatnam. This was India's highest successful chase in T20 Internationals. The skipper was in belligerent mood making a mockery of a 209-run chase with 42-ball 80 but Rinku's 22 not out off 14 balls saved India from the blushes.

Very happy with the way the boys played. Was very happy with their energy, we were put under pressure but the way everyone showed up was amazing. It’s a proud moment, very proud moment, everytime you play, you think about representing India but coming out here and captaining India is a big moment. Thought there will be a little bit of dew but there wasn’t. It isn’t a big ground and I knew batting will get easy. Thought they might get 230-235 but the bowlers did really well. Just enjoy and express yourself. We’ve been in such situations many times in franchise cricket, just told Ishan to enjoy himself. We knew what was going to happen. I left the luggage of captaincy in the dressing room. I try to enjoy my batting. The atmosphere was amazing, thanks to the crowd. Was great to see how the boys kept their nerves. Was great to see Rinku, the situation was tailor-made for him. He was calm and collected, calmed me down a little bit. Incredible achievement from the bowlers to restrict them to this total after the 16th over.

It was a good match in the end. Inglis got us a score we thought we could defend but the Indians came hard at us. These young Indians play a lot of IPL and T20 cricket. Thought we bowled pretty well, just couldn’t nail our yorkers, easier said than done especially on a small ground like this. Lot of positives to take out from this game. Inglis was class. We thought we did fairly well, Ellis bowled a big over for us to take it into the final over, it went down to the last ball so it shows how close it was.

I think bowlers did a great job, we were put under pressure, but credit to Mukesh for the way he bowled, the wicket wasn't easy to bowl on, but to go at less then 9 RPO was outstanding, Rinku as well, playing at the early stage of his career and playing that kind of innings, it was special. We didn't want to put too much pressure on the later batters, credit to Surya bhai, he planned his innings superbly, he can always play the big shots whenever needed. The plan was to get quick runs (on the partnership), so even if I got out, we needed the runs on the board. The ball I got out, he wanted me to look for a single, but the gap between runs required and balls left was big and I had to go for my shots. It's a young side, most of them have not played against big teams like this, we'll make mistakes, we'll talk about it during the team meetings and come back better with the ball in the next match.

That's it! India have done it! Rinku Singh finishes off the game in style with a SIX straight down the ground! What a chase this has turned out to be from India. Riding on heroic 40-ball 80 from skipper Suryakumar Yadav and 58 from Ishan Kishan, India chase down a mammoth 209 in Visakhapatnam in series opener and go 1-0 up in 5-match series. Rinku 14-ball 28 not out wraps up the tense chase in a terrific manner. And it turns out late, Sean Abbott had over-stepped off the last ball, so the six won't be counted but India win indeed! India chase down a massive 209 off the last ball. With the win, INDIA HAVE PULLED OFF THEIR HIGHEST-EVER SUCCESSFUL RUN CHASE IN T20Is.

That's it! Mukesh Kumar completes the final over, giving away just 5 runs but Australia pile up 208 for three in their 20 overs after being put into bat. Josh Inglis turned out to be the star performer for the Aussies as he fired his maiden T20I ton and went on to scored a blistering 50-ball 110. Taking the India bowlers to the cleaners, Inglis hit them left, right and centre. Steve Smith too played a superb 41-ball 52 adding 130 runs for the second wicket.
