Australia advances, West Indies' hopes fading fast - Australia Under-19 have sealed their spot in the semi-finals of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, 2026, with a clinical 20-run victory over the West Indies. While the Australians celebrate their progression to the final four, the road ahead looks increasingly bleak for the young Windies side, as hefty defeats to both Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in the remaining matches might just help them with survival but it looks highly unlikely. The action from the Super 6 stage continues on January 29, 2026, as South Africa Under-19 takes on Sri Lanka Under-19 in Match 8 at 7.30 am GMT. Join us an hour early for all the buildup and updates. Cheers!

Player Of The Match is Oliver Peake - For his knock of 109 off 117 balls, the Australian skipper, Oliver Peake, has been named the Player Of The Match. Peake says Will Malajczuk has given them a good start throughout the tournament and it helps the other batters. Tells that it is always good to contribute, and he was happy to get some time in the middle. Mentions that he is not exhausted and there is a lot of energy left. Reckons that his family is flying back home after this match, so it's nice to put in a small performance. Shares that it's good to go in the final four, undefeated but the Windies gave them a tough fight. Feels they were happy to get 300 plus but the Windies came pretty hard on them in the Powerplay. Admits Charles Lachmund is pacy and is likely to get wickets every day. Appreciates Hayden Schiller's bowling performance as well. Admits that there is a belief in the camp to go undefeated, they want to play the same way and enjoy every moment.

21:02 (IST) Jan 28

West Indies U19 captain Joshua Dorne - Dorne attributed his side's 20-run defeat to a combination of falling short on the scoreboard and challenging pitch conditions. Acknowledging that the opposition batted effectively on a dry surface, he felt the Windies were just 20 runs short of a winning total. Dorne lamented brief lapses in their bowling performance, particularly during the Powerplay, where they let them slip away a bit, and pointed to a less-than-optimal fielding effort as another area where crucial runs were conceded. Despite the loss, Dorne maintained that the team remained calm during the chase and, while disappointed with the result, believes they did not do a bad job overall, expressing optimism for future tournaments ahead.

20:59 (IST) Jan 28

Peake's century anchors Australian innings - Earlier, Australia posted a commanding 314/7 in their 50 overs after being asked to bat first, with captain Oliver Peake anchoring the innings with a brilliant 109. The innings began with a Powerplay blitz led by opener Will Malajczuk, who smashed 48 off 30 balls. Despite the West Indies attempts to claw back wickets in the middle overs, led by the efforts of R’jai Gittens and Vitel Lawes. Peake combined first with Nitesh Samuel, who scored 56, and then Alex Lee Young, who played a good hand of 45 to build steady partnerships. Australia accelerated in the death overs, adding 85 runs in the final ten overs. While the West Indies bowlers, particularly Jakeem Pollard, fought hard, extras proved costly, leaving the Windies a daunting chase.

20:52 (IST) Jan 28

Bowling attack bounces back for victory - The Australian bowlers, though under significant pressure early in the match, demonstrated remarkable character to bounce back and secure the win in a relatively comfortable manner at the end. Charles Lachmund was the standout performer with the ball, registering excellent figures of 4 wickets. He was well supported by Aryan Sharma and Hayden Schiller, who each claimed a couple of wickets, and Naden Cooray, who grabbed one, collectively dismantling the West Indies batting lineup to seal their place in the semi-finals.

20:50 (IST) Jan 28

Aussie bowlers spark a dramatic collapse - Despite the strong position the West Indies found themselves in at 171 for 3 after 26.1 overs, the Australian bowling attack showcased incredible resilience and skill during the crucial final phase of the game. They ran riots towards the end, snatching the game from what seemed a comfortable Windies win. With wickets falling in a jiffy, the Australians executed their death bowling plans perfectly, stemming the flow of runs and applying immense pressure that ultimately proved too much for the West Indies' lower order.

20:48 (IST) Jan 28

Steady partnerships maintain momentum - Following the fall of the first wicket, Jewel Andrew joined Carter in the middle and the momentum barely stuttered. The pair added another crucial 35 runs together, effectively preventing any potential collapse and denying the Australians a chance to gain a foothold in the game. A series of good little partnerships throughout the order ensured the Windies maintained a strong scoring rate and remained on the front foot for much of their innings.

20:47 (IST) Jan 28

Carter's onslaught puts Aussies on the back foot - The West Indies innings began with an explosive display of batting prowess, led by the exceptional Zachary Carter. He pinned the Australian bowling attack on the back foot from the outset with a barrage of aggressive strokes. The opening duo of Carter and Tanez Francis forged a formidable partnership, plundering 84 runs within the first 10 overs alone. Their first-wicket stand ultimately yielded an impressive 88 runs, setting a brilliant foundation for a high-scoring chase.

20:45 (IST) Jan 28

Australia clinch a Semi-Final berth - Congratulations to the Australia Under-19 side on a thrilling 22-run victory over the West Indies Under-19 team. This hard-fought win not only secures their spot in the final four of the tournament but also, unfortunately, puts the Windies' campaign under imminent threat of ending before the final four stage. It was a match that had spectators on the edge of their seats until the very last over, showcasing the immense talent of both sides.
