(ICF) to clinch the title in the Five-Day Tetrasoft Hyderabad Marriott

FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament

which concluded here on Sunday night.


At the conclusion of the final round, Saravana Krishnan and Deepan Chakravarthy were tied for the first place with 8 points each but a better tie-break helped Saravana Krishnan P emerge as champion.

Saravana Krishnan took home the winners' purse of Rs 75,000, while Deepan Chakkarathy had to be content with Rs 50,000 as runner cash award.

The tournament had a record of 274 players with 223 International Rated players from 15 States across India and special units from Southern Railways, ICF Andhra Bank and KVB vying for honours. Four Grandmasters and Six International Masters too participated in the tournament.

Another feature was to organize the event in a five-star venue-The Hotel Marriott and that too with a total cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. The tournament also saw the oldest man, youngest girl, and the visually challenged participating in it.

, Major Shiva Prasad, vice-president of TSCA, gave away the prizes. On the whole, 102 prizes were won in the tournament.

The objective of the Tetrasoft Hyderabad Marriott Intl Open Fide Rating Chess tournament, according to Tetrasoft and Telangana Chess Association officials, was to improve and promote the game in the state of Telangana.

The five-day battle of minds was organized by ACT, Indian Chess School, and South Mumbai Chess Academy.
