Fabiano Caruana
pocket a full point on Wednesday evening. Caruana, who recently won the Candidates tournament and become Challenger to the current World champion
Magnus Carlsen, got the better of Arkadij Naiditsch to be the only winner in the round which saw the other four contests ending in draws.
Caruana's victory meant he has 3 points to his name from 4 rounds and is part of the leaders' group along with
Nikita Vitiugov
and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Caruana played the Spanish and a Berlin variation and kept the momentum going right from the word go. On his good run of form in the last few weeks, Caruana told the tournament site, "The tournament has gone well so far. I hope to take a break after the US Championships. I am used to playing a lot."
Meanwhile, in other matches, Nikita shared the spoils with multiple-time World champion
Viswanathan Anand while Carlsen had to settle for a draw against Maxime. Yifan Hou and Georg Meier too drew with Levon Aronian and Matthias Bluebaum respectively.
On his experience of playing for Baden Baden in the German Bundesliga, Anand mentioned to the tournament site, "I have been here countless times and been playing in the league for the last 16 years. I came here the first time in 2002 when I joined the club."
In the upcoming fifth round on Thursday, Anand will lock horns with Caruana and it will be a keenly-followed clash.
