All-Russian final in Chess World Cup
CHENNAI It's an all-Russian final in the Chess World Cup. Alexander Grischuk of Russia knocked Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine via the speed chess tiebreaker 3.5-2.5 in the semifinals on Wednesday at Khanty Mansiysk to set up a four-game final against Peter Svidler starting on Friday after a day's rest.
The four short games that Grischuk played on Wednesday must have drained him as three of them were decisive.

After the regular games ended 1-1 on Tuesday, the rapid games were also tied 1-1 and Grischuk won the first of the blitz games before drawing the final game.
Otherwise, the match could have gone into Armageddon, the one decisive game where white and black have unequal time allocation and one needing only a draw to win the match, essentially a sudden death game.
Basically, white had the say in the rapid and blitz games as both Grischuk and Ivanchuk won their respective games in the rapid mini-match. Grischuk won the first blitz with white and Ivanchuk could only draw the return game.
