Fresh from her maiden international title at the Asian School Games recently, Malvika dispatched Nikita Ghogale 15-4, 15-2 without breaking much of a sweat in the women's singles first round.

NAGPUR: In-form Malvika Bansod, Sanika Durugkar, Chaitali Nayse, Nayan Thakre and Rutura Joshi started their campaign on a winning note in the Raojibhai M Patel & Kamleshbhai R Patel Memorial Maharashtra Senior State Selection Badminton tournament at the District Sports Complex, Bachat Bhavan in Wardha on Friday.

Chaitali Nayse, downed Pune's Swapna Belsare 15-12, 15-11. Chaitali, a Standard X student of RS Mundle English School, dominated the match from the word go and did not give any chance to her opponent Swapna Belsare.
Besides Malvika and Chaitali, Sanika Durugkar, Nayan Thakre and Rutura Joshi also entered the second round.
In the men's singles, father-son duo of Kiran Makode and Vinay Makode won their second round encounters to move up. However, Makarand Nimbalkar went down fighting against Likhit Bangera in three games.
Wardha Collector Shailesh Nawal inaugurated the four-day tournament on Friday morning. Shardaben R Patel, Wardha District Badminton Association president Rakesh Patel, WDSBA secretary Mohan Shah, MBA executive committee member Anil Gupta and members and officials of WDSBA were present on the occasion.

The third round matches will get underway on Saturday morning. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on Sunday, while the finals will be held on Monday.
Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) president Arun Lakhani will be the chief guest for the prize distribution function.
