Kidambi Srikanth's rise to the top of the world rankings on Thursday.

Srikanth had the Indonesia Open, Australia Open, Denmark Open and the French Open titles in his kitty and narrowly missed adding a fifth as well. Srikanth had gone on to make the finals of the Singapore Open Super Series but went down to good friend and countryman Sai Praneeth.
Interestingly, Prasad has been close to the 25-year-old's family for long. Speaking on Srikanth's stupendous achievement, Prasad said, "My wholehearted congratulations to Kidambi Srikanth for reaching Numero Uno in world badminton rankings. It's a phenomenal achievement for the young lad from Guntur. I congratulate
Pullela Gopichand who has put in so much of hard work behind Srikanth's success. The strange coincidence is that Srikanth's father was instrumental in introducing me to cricket as we were neighbors in Guntur. I take this opportunity to congratulate his dad too whom I used to call Kittu Babai."
In a chat with TOI, Srikanth's father
KVS Krishna
had remarked the rationale behind allowing his son to take up the sport. "I never thought he would achieve so much. I only made him play badminton because it could help him get a small government job," he said.
Srikanth, who is currently featuring at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, made it to the men's singles semifinals after scoring a comfortable 21-15, 21-12 win over Singapore's
Zin Rei Ryan
on Friday.
