NAGPUR: It was a mixed success for

Krisha Soni

in the Yonex-Sunrise

All India Sub-Junior

(U-13) Ranking Badminton tournament being played at the

Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy

Hall at Hyderabad on Friday.

While Krisha Soni lost in the U-13 girls singles pre-quarterfinals, the 12-year-old city girl advanced in the doubles category with her partner

Sarah Sharma

from Jharkhand.

Krisha, who defeated Bihar’s P Srija 21-18, 21-18 in the first round on Thursday, started the day on a fine note when she ousted Divitha Pottasiri of Andhra Pradesh 21-19, 21-16 in 25 minutes. Nagpur district U-13 girls singles champion Krisha faced stiff competition in the first game but after winning the opener she dominated the second game.

However, later in the day, Krisha Soni found the second seed Unnati Hooda of Haryana too hot to handle and lost 12-21, 13-21 in 22 minutes. Krisha tried her best but her best was not enough against Unnati Hooda.

In the U-13 girls doubles, the pair of Krisha and Sarah thumped Adarshini Shri NB and Darshini N Priya 21-12, 21-19 in the second round to book their place in the last eight. Earlier in the first round, Krisha-Sarah edged past Telangana’s Shaagun Singh and Srishti Singh 22-20, 14-21, 21-15.

In the quarters, sixth seeded duo of Krisha and Sarah will clash with top seeds Unnati Hooda (Haryana) and Divitha Pottasiri (AP).

Nishika Gokhe did well to qualify for the main draw but could not advance further. Top seed Navya Kanderi trounced city girl Nishika Gokhe 21-3, 21-7.
