at Kozhikode on Saturday.


The fast-rising teenager repeated the Friday show with yet another twin victories on Saturday to seal her berth in the summit clash. The talented southpaw showed her high level of fitness and extraordinary temperament with two three-game wins on the penultimate day's play.

Fourteenth seed Malvika first edged out former national champion

21-19, 11-21, 21-19 in a marathon quarterfinal match which lasted for an hour and 27 minutes.

Later in the evening after a few hours of rest, Malvika again caused a big upset when she edged past fourth seed Vaidehi Choudhari 21-9, 19-21, 21-19. The nail-biting women's singles semifinal saw fortunes fluctuating every minute. Malvika had chance to wrap up the match in straight games but tall shuttler Vaidehi managed to level the scores 1-1 by clinching the second game 21-19.

The third and deciding game was an excting affair. Malvika kept her composure at the crucial moments to claim the hard-fought decider 21-19 to make it to the second final of the All India senior ranking tournament.

Malvika will now clash with Purva Barve in the final on Sunday. The Pune teenager stunned top seed Kanika Kanwal of Delhi in the other semifinal.

While Malvika reached final, Ritika Thaker's campaign ended in the women's doubles semifinals. Seventh seeds Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi lost top seeded pair of Aparna Balan and Prajakta Sawant 13-21, 7-21.

Women's doubles: 7-Ritika Thaker-Simran Singhi lost 1-Aparna Balan-Prajakta Sawant 13-21, 7-21.
