Leave PV Sindhu alone, let her be what she is: Jwala Gutta
HYDERABAD: Doubles ace Jwala Gutta came in defense of PV Sindhu, who is struggling to get back to her best. The two-time Olympic medallist did not win a single title this year and is working with a new coach, the renowned Indonesian Agus Santoso at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru.
Jwala, who launched her women's cricket academy, said that Sindhu surpassed all the expectations. "Sindhu has done a lot, let her be what she is. She has surpassed all our expectations. She won two Olympic medals and that's a big feat. We should celebrate Sindhu," said Jwala, adding that after five years at the top of the sport, it is difficult to maintain the level.
"After five years at the top everyone will study your game and try to weaken your strengths. I think Sindhu should not take the pressure and play freely. But as she is the only big shuttler in the country the focus of the entire country is on her and it would be very difficult to overcome that. But leave her alone and let her do what she wants," said Jwala, who inaugurated a first-of-its-kind women's residential cricket academy adjacent to her badminton academy on the premises of the Sujatha School on the city outskirts.
Jwala said that at least ten top coaches will train the women cricketers from a tender age. "I want to do my best for sports. Now that many women are turning to cricket, thanks to the BCCI taking over its administration, I want to help young girls get the best possible training. I love all the sports and I have many friends in cricket. With their support I want to turn this into the best academy for women," said Jwala, who inaugurated the academy at the sprawling cricket ground of the Sujatha School.
"We are developing two big cricket grounds. Jwala's academy will take care of the residence and training of the girls. We have plans to appoint a top Indian player as coach," said Uday Singh, director, Sujatha School.
