NAGPUR: Gaikwad-Patil International School-SJAN Media Badminton tournament, organised by the Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur in association with the

Nagpur Municipal Corporation

will be held here at the NMC Indoor Hall at Vivekanand Nagar from April 25 to 28.


Men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles events will be played during the annual four-day tournament. Attractive prizes will be given to the winners, runners-up and semi-finalists. The entry fee for singles is Rs 30 and Rs 50 for doubles. Matches will be played with Yonex feather shuttles. Yonex will sponsor the T-shirts for all the winners and runners-up.

Last year Lokmat’s Ashish Jain triumphed in the men’s singles while Suhas Nayse of The Times of India (TOI) finished runner-up. In doubles, Jain-Raviraj Ambadwar emerged winners, while Suhas Nayse-Fakruddin Bora achieved the second place.

Rakhi Chavan

of Loksatta reigned supreme in the women’s singles. In mixed doubles, Lokmat pair of Ashish Jain and

Pradnya Banerjee

won the title.

This year, Indian badminton star Aparna Popat will inaugurate the media badminton tournament on April 25 at 11 am. Aparna Popat was the star of Indian women’s badminton field before the arrival of Saina Nehwal.

The last date of entry is April 22 and the draws will be declared on April 24. For entries, the interested players can contact sports desk of respective newspapers or convener of the tournament Nilesh Deshpande.

The semifinals will be held on April 27. All the finals will be held on April 28 from 9 am onwards.
