Centre Point School triumph in CBSE South Zone Badminton tournament

NAGPUR: Centre Point School (CPS), Katol Road, emerged champions in the CBSE South Zone Badminton tournament held Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir School in Bengaluru.
Formidable CPS won the U-17 boys crown quite easily and qualified for the forthcoming CBSE School Nationals.
In the final, CPS thumped Bharathi Vidhyalaya School of Tamil Nadu 2-0 thanks to an outstanding performance by Rohan Gurbani.The India No. 3 player in the U-17 boys singles, won both his singles and doubles matches to help his team pocket the title.
In the first singles, Rohan Gurbani beat R Raghav Kannan 21-12, 21-14. The sixteen-year-old dominated the match from the word go and did not give any chance whatsoever to his Tamil Nadu opponent.
Later in the day, Rohan Gurbani and Jaskaran Suri quelled the spirited challenge from R Raghav Kannan and R Rahul Kannan 23-21, 21-15 to clinch the title.
Earlier in the semifinals, CPS trounced another TN team Chinmaya Vidyalaya with an identical score of 2-0.
Sifat Singh Arora outclassed Shashwat 21-16, 21-19 to give his team a flying start. Rohan Gurbani and Jaskaran Suri then combined well to down Shashwat and Siddharth 21-17, 21-16.
Besides Rohan, who recently represented the Indian team in the Asian Junior Badminton Championship at Mynmar, Jaskaran Suri, Sifat Singh Arora and Sarthak Pakhmode were the other members of the CPS team.

Semifinal: CPS bt Chinmaya Vidyalaya (TN) 2-0 (Sifat Singh Arora bt Shashwat 21-16, 21-19; Rohan Gurbani-Jaskaran Suri bt Shashwat-Siddharth 21-17, 21-16).
Final: CPS bt Bharathi Vidhyalaya CBSE School (TN) 2-0 (Rohan Gurbani bt R Raghav Kannan 21-12, 21-14; Rohan Gurbani-Jaskaran Suri bt R Raghav Kannan-R Rahul Kannan 23-21, 21-15).
