Azerbaijan International: Devika Sihag continues winning run, Sathwki-Radhika clinch mixed doubles crown

NEW DELHI: India’s rising women’s singles shuttler Devika Sihag clinched her second successive international title, while Satwik Reddy K and Radhika Sharma claimed the mixed doubles crown at the Azerbaijan International badminton tournament in Baku on Sunday.


Fresh from becoming only the third Indian women’s singles player to lift a BWF World Tour Super 300 title at the Thailand Masters last week, Devika extended her fine run with a straight-games victory over compatriot Navya Kanderi, winning 21-10, 21-13 in the final.



Speaking to BAI Media after her latest triumph, Devika said she was pleased with her performances over the past two weeks despite limited training.

“I will now have almost a month to train before I play my next tournament and I am looking forward to it,” said Devika, who is hoping her improved ranking will earn her an entry into the Swiss Open.

Earlier in the day, national champions Satwik and Radhika showed remarkable composure under pressure to upset third seeds Mihajlo Tomic and Andjela Vitman in a gripping mixed doubles final. The Indian pair edged out their opponents 24-22, 10-21, 24-22 in a contest lasting one hour and two minutes.
