Star India boxer Nikhat Zareen bowed out in the semifinals at the Asian Games Hangzhou on Sunday. The double World Championships gold medallist, competing in the women's 50kg category, had to settle for bronze after losing to Rakast Chuthamat of Thailand.

Shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor on Sunday successfully defended his Asian Games title with an amazing final throw in Hangzhou. Toor, the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games gold medallist, came up with a mighty throw of 20.36 metres on his sixth and last attempt to beat back the challenge from his Saudi Arabian rival.

In a dramatic turn of events at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, Jyothi Yarraji's bronze medal was soon upgraded to silver in the women's 100m hurdles event after the Athletics Federation of India lodged an official protest without wasting any time for calling out Jyothi's false start. The drama unfolded when China's Yanni Wu made successive second false start to the final but to everyone's dismay, the officials called out Jyothi for false start, prompting AFI to lodge an immediate protest. Lashing out at the officials, legendary Indian long-jumper and AFI's VP Anju Bobby George said it was very unusual act by them and did all the drama by reaching out to Jyothi.

Avinash Sable on Sunday made history, becoming the first Indian man to clinch a gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. The 29-year-old, who holds the national record, secured India's first gold medal in athletics at the ongoing Games, finishing the race in a record time of 8 minutes and 19.50 seconds. Sable not only claimed the gold but also rewrote the previous Asian Games record of 8 minutes and 22.79 seconds made by Iran's Hossein Keyhani in the 2018 Jakarta Games.
