Way to keep law of money magnetism in motion
If you were a trader in China in 1200 BCE, you would carry cowrie shells as an accepted form of representative money in Africa, Asia, and Australia. The Native American Indians used shells, called wampum, as a medium of exchange. Today, our wampum is a plastic card, or it's floating invisibly in cyberspace.
Whatever form it takes, money's value lies not in the object we use as a proxy, but in its power to obtain and exchange goods and services. The more money you possess, the more energy is at your command. It isn't only that we attract money to us: We attract energy, which then manifests itself in the form of money. And the supply of energy is cosmic in scope.
Is money evil? Money is 'evil' only when it makes us its slave, overpowering us like any other addiction and imprisoning us in an ego-centric world. Those who are attached to their money and possessions often live in fear of losing their perceived security and lose their health in the pursuit of even more.
The other side of the coin is that we can use money to help ourselves and others. The money that comes into our possession has an important role to play in our spiritual destiny. When we use money in the pursuit of dharma, it fulfils its highest purpose and becomes increasingly magnetic.
Paramhansa Yogananda once commented: "Money-making is the next greatest art after the art of realising God. All the good and philanthropic works of the world, all noble successes, have to be accomplished through money. To earn money abundantly, unselfishly, honestly, quickly, just for God and God's work and making others happy is to develop many sterling qualities of character that will aid one on the spiritual as well as the material path."
To magnetise money effectively, we need to be scrupulously truthful in our dealings. Truth has power. Truth is power, because it is the fabric from which the universe is created - Sat-chit-anand: truth, awareness, and bliss. Being honest and transparent in our business dealings creates a strong magnetism that attracts success, prosperity, and the money we need to fulfil our dharmic obligations.
The most powerful and effective way to attract money is to share it. It may seem paradoxical, but the more we give of our money, the more the universe gives us in return. Swami Kriyananda writes: "Money, ultimately, brings happiness only if it is shared. When it is used generously to help others, one feels happy in himself and finds his happiness expanding to include others' well-being. When one helps others to achieve prosperity, he attracts greater prosperity to himself."
We can justifiably assume that the Source of all abundance will respond to our needs, but we should never presumptuously imagine that it will fulfil our every desire. When the Source of our being fulfils a need and we humbly and lovingly offer our gratitude in return, we return the blessing to its Source, whereupon it comes back to us again. This is the feedback dynamic that keeps Law of Magnetism in motion.
