How would you react if someone were to offer you a powdered stimulant, one that had to be inhaled? A tad shocked, you might say. However, the stimulant we’re talking about here isn’t among the banned ones like cocaine but finely ground dust of pure Dominican Republic cocoa mixed with a hint of ginger and mint. And it’s the world’s first snortable chocolate, created by Belgium’s chocolatier Dominique Persoone.
It was when Persoone was contacted by the entourage and wives of Ron Wood and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones to make a special dessert for their frontman Mick Jagger’s birthday that the world’s first chocolate shooter was created.
Available at Persoone’s shop called the Chocolate Line in Belgium, this is how it works: the shooter, that looks like a mini
catapult, is to be loaded with pulverized chocolate. You then position it under your nostrils, hit the release and snort. The result is a wild explosion of flavours directly hitting your brain.
Persoone, who prefers to call himself a "Shock-o-latier" says, “As the group is famous for Rock ‘n’ Roll, I decided to create this special equipment to sniff chocolate", something they loved." So what happens when you sniff the chocolate? “The cocoa opens the mind and nose and you experience instant happiness.
The feel and taste of the chocolate lasts for around 15 minutes." And ever since the Rolling Stones endorsed it, sniffing chocolate has become an instant hit in Belgium. “I can’t say how many shooter packs we’ve sold but it’s greatly in demand. In fact, we have buyers from across the world asking for the shooter," adds Persoone.
