Shukra Pradosh Vrat 2026: Date, time, rituals, mantra and significance
Pradosh Vrat is one of the most auspicious fasts. It is dedicated exclusively to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and falls on Trayodashi Tithi, the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. The Pradosh that falls on Friday is called Shukra Pradosh Vrat. According to the drik panchang, it will be observed on Trayodashi Tithi of shukla Paksha in the month of Magha. Today, January 30, 2026, is Pradosh Vrat.

According to the Hindu scriptures, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati experience extreme joy and generosity on this auspicious day. Pradosh translates to "the first part of the evening." Anyone can observe Pradosh Vrat, regardless of age or gender.
As per Skanda Purana, two types of pradosh fasts are observed on the day of Pradosh. One is the midday fast, which can be broken at night, and the other is the strict Pradosh vrat, which is kept for a full day and can be broken the next day.
Some people also worship Lord Shiva in his Natraj form on this Pradosh day. Those who fast with total devotion and dedication are said to receive happiness, success, prosperity, and the satisfaction of all desires from Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is believed that unmarried female devotees who worship Goddess Parvati and give her shringaar would be granted their ideal husbands.
1. After rising early in the morning, the devotees take a sacred bath.
2. Place an idol of Shiva Parivaar.
3. Light a diya with sesame oil or desi ghee, offer sweets (any white sweet), and present white and red color flowers.
4. Perform the Pradosh Vrat Katha and the Lord Shiva Aarti.
5. Devotees are required to visit the temple and use panchamrit to perform abhishekam and pooja to the shivalingam.
6. During abhishekam, devotees are required to chant "Om Namaha Shivaye".
7. On the day of Pradosh, devotees must chant "Om Namaha Shivaye" and the "Mahamrityunjay Mantra" 108 times.
8. After presenting bhog prasad to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, devotees, who are unable to keep a strict fast can break it at night and have a satvik meal.
