Jyeshtha Gauri Avahana 2024: Date, Timings, Puja Rituals and Significance
Jyeshtha Gauri Avahana has an immense religious significance in Hindu religion. This day is celebrated as one of the most important festival celebrated in Maharashtra. Marathi women observe fast on this auspicious day and offer prayers to Goddess Gauri. This fast is observed under Anuradha Nakshatra i.e., on September 10, 2024.

Jyeshtha Gauri Avahana 2024: Significance
Jyeshtha Gauri Avahana holds a great religious significance among Marathi women as they observe this fast with immense devotion and faith. On the first day of Jyeshtha Gauri Avahana, they invoke the idol of Gauri, observe fast and offer prayers to Goddess Gauri for the well being of their husband while unmarried women observe this fast. This is the three day celebration, first day they bring the idol of Goddess Gauri at home, one second day, they organize Gauri Puja and on the third day, they immerse the idol in a sea or river nearby their house.
Before bringing the idol of Gauri Mata at home, women clean their house properly and decorate it with flowers and create beautiful rangolis. They also make feet of Goddess Gauri at the entrance of the house. Women prepare 16 different types of dishes and special bhog prasad for Gauri Mata. They sing devotional and traditional songs or bhajans to please Gauri Mata. After celebrating this festival for 2 consecutive days then third day, Gauri Mata return to Kailash Parbat after the immersion.
Jyeshtha Gauri Avahana 2024: Puja Rituals
1. Women wake up early in the morning and take bath.
2. Women wear traditional clothes and clean the house.
3. They decorate their house with flowers, mango leaves, make rangoli and create Goddess Gauri's feet at the entrance.
4. Male members of the family bring the Goddess Gauri idol at home.
5. They place the idol on a wooden plank, put kalash filled with water and keep a coconut on the kalash and decorate the idol with shringar items and ornaments.
6. Offer prayers to Goddess Gauri, offer bhog prasad, seasonal fruits and other things.
8. Women wear green bangles and green sarees, which is considered highly auspicious in Marathi tradition.
9. On the third and the last day, the idol is immersed in the water.
