Bhadrapada Amavasya 2024: Amavasya holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. This day is purely dedicated to honour ancestors. This is the lunar phase of dark moon. Amavasya that falls in the month of Bhadrapada known as Bhadarapada Amavasya. In Tamil Nadu, this Amavasya is known as Avani Amavasya. In Marwari community, this day is also known as Bhado Amavasya or Bhadi Amavasya. This year, Bhadrapada Amavasya is being observed on September 2, 2024.

Bhadrapada Amavasya 2024: Significance
Bhadrapada Amavasya has its great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. On this auspicious day, people perform various puja rituals to seek blessings of their ancestors or forefathers. Performing Pitru Puja and Pitru Tarpan are the most common practices.
People invite Bramins or priest at home and offer food, clothes and dakshina to them. Many people visit Ganga Ghats to take holy bath in Ganga river. Doing charity and donations are considered highly rewarding. This day is auspicious for feeding cows, dogs, crows and ants. Some people get involved in religious and spiritual activities such as performing hawan, chanting mantras, performing meditation.
This day is also considered auspicious for performing Kaal Sarpa Didsha Puja and it is believed that those who suffering from this Dosha, must perform puja on Bhadrapada Amavasya to get rid of the Dosha. This day is sacred to get rid of the past sins and Kaal Sarpa dosha also represents the past sins so one must perform puja.
Pithori Amavasya 2024
Bhadrapada Amavasya is also known as Pithori Amavasya. This day holds a great significance and in Rajasthan, this day is dedicated to Rani Sati and they celebrate it with immense devotion. The huge fair is carried out in Jhunjhunu district with great pomp and show. Rani Sati represents as the Goddess who sacrificed her life. It is believed that she sat on her husband's pyre and sacrificed her life. All married women pray to Rani Sati for the well being and longevity of their husbands while unmarried women pray to get the desired husband. There is a famous temple dedicated to Rani Sati, which is situated in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan and the large number of Rajasthani people visit this temple to seek blessings of the Goddess. This temple is also known as Rani Sati Dadi Temple.
