On April 15, 1469, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in the Talwandi village (now Nankana Sahib, Pakistan). His mother was Mata Tripta, and his father was Mehta Kalu, a Hindu Khatri. Despite growing up in a modest family, Guru Nanak had a strong spiritual bent from an early age. He developed a spiritual side early on and frequently questioned unfairness, injustice, and certain immoral customs and practices. At the age of 30, he underwent a metamorphosis and began teaching the people that all individuals are the same and the humanity is above everything. He only taught about the humanity and not religion.
Guru Nanak Jayanti is a day solely dedicated to honoring the first Sikh Guru and holds a great religious and spiritual significance. The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Ji's is commemorated on this day, and followers of the Guru offer prayers to him with the immense fervor and happiness. Since Guru Nanak Dev Ji was a spiritual leader of 15th century, the Hindu society as a whole admires his teachings and learns a great deal from him and his stories.
