Tata also earned global admiration for his philanthropy, humility, and understated lifestyle. His sea-facing bungalow in Mumbai’s Colaba is among India’s most talked-about luxury residences. Popularly known as “The Cabins” or “Bakhtawar”, the bungalow is once again in the news following his death in 2024.

The bungalow, spread over 13,200–13,350 sq ft, is located in the premium neighbourhood of Mumbai’s Colaba area along Shahid Bhagat Singh Road. Overlooking the Arabian Sea, Bakhtawar (one who brings good fortune) is among the most expensive standalone bungalows in the city.

As per real-estate experts, the property commands a valuation above ₹150 crore. Some market observers believe that the value and Tata legacy could push the figure much higher in the coming years.

The expansive glass walls and large terraces along with open sea-facing decks add to the coastal charm. As per several media reports, Tata, who studied architecture, played an important role in the designing of the house.

The bungalow is gorgeous and rises across multiple levels. According to reports, the bungalow has a basement, ground floor, and three upper levels which are interconnected. Natural light plays an important role in the positive vibes of the house. The interiors were designed to maximise natural light and offer unobstructed views of the Arabian Sea. Recently, reports emerged that Tata Sons had leased the bungalow for a five-year term at a starting monthly rent of ₹17.56 lakh. The agreement reportedly involved Ewart Investments, a Tata Sons subsidiary that owns the property.
