Sasaram: Prompt alerts received at the district level helped police foil attempted thefts at two ATM kiosks in Rohtas district within a span of 12 hours.In one of the incidents, a brief exchange of fire took place between miscreants and the police. The incidents were confirmed by Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar.The first incident occurred Friday night at Gorari Bazar under Karakat police station area, where criminals attempted to loot an ATM. Acting on timely information, police rushed to the spot and confronted the suspects, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.According to official sources, a group of unidentified miscreants arrived at the kiosk in an SUV and attempted to break into the SBI ATM located in the Gorari market area. The criminals were reportedly equipped with tools meant to cut open the machine.On noticing the arrival of police personnel, the accused allegedly opened fire while trying to flee. In response, the SHO of Karakat police station fired two rounds. Taking advantage of the darkness, the miscreants managed to escape from the place.In another incident reported on the same night, miscreants attempted to tamper with an ATM at Ekadashi Chowk under Dalamiyanagar police station area. Police reached the location promptly after receiving information and found signs of tampering at the kiosk.The SP is monitoring the investigation, and police have launched a manhunt to arrest those involved in the attempted robberies.
