When the New Zealand government earlier this month, in a surprise announcement, signalled a policy shift to restrict migration of low-skilled workers and instead welcome rich investors and highly skilled professionals, an Indian restaurateur in Auckland sent a strongly-worded letter to prime minister Jacinda Ardern, voicing her concerns.
