LUCKNOW: Two senior leaders of Samajwadi Party’s youth wing and 22 others, including two JNU students, were arrested as a preventive measure ahead of PM’s visit in the city on Tuesday.
Earlier, the local intelligence unit (LIU) had given a report to the SSP that
Samajwadi party’s youth wing was expected to show black flags wherever they found loopholes in the security.
The Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha leaders who were arrested were its president Digvijay Singh and vice-president Monu Dubey. Lucknow SSP Deepak Kumar said that both Singh and Dubey were charged under 151 of the CrPc for creating lawlessness. The youth wing had earlier, on June 7, shown black flags to the chief minister’s fleet.
Wazirganj station officer PK Singh said 22 protesters were arrested from Shaheed Smarak because they had wanted to
protest against the arrests of those who had shown black flags and also members of Bheem Sena.
Additional superintendent of police (west) Vikas Tripathi said of the 22 arrested, Dileep Yadav and Ameeque Jemai were JNU students. They all were charged under 151 (disturbing law and order), 107 (when a person, in the knowledge of a magistrate, disturbs law and order), and 116 (for knowingly disturbing law and order) of the CrPc.
