Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s trip to the city on Sunday was organized for one singular purpose: lashing out at the MIM. And his bumpy ride to an interior pocket of Ziaguda only gave him more reason to unleash a diatribe against the Majlis and its erstwhile ally, the Congress.
“I thought Hyderabad was a beautiful city with basic infrastructure in place, but during my drive to reach here my vehicle landed more often in ditches than staying on the road,” the Madhya Pradesh chief minister bluntly said.
Chouhan was in the city to campaign for BJP’s Hyderabad Lok Sabha candidate Bhagvanth Rao and Karwan assembly segment nominee Baddam Bal Reddy, both MIM strongholds.
“MIM has held the Hyderabad parliamentary seat and Karwan assembly constituency for many years now. But where is the development?” he asked the gathering. And unlike most other senior BJP leaders who have been seen allowing Gujarat’s development propelled by BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi eclipse their own achievements during electioneering, Chouhan only selectively referred to Gujarat, even as he narrated several success stories from Madhya Pradesh. “In Madhya Pradesh rural areas have 24-hour power supply under the BJP rule. We provided many areas with piped water supply and not just hand pumps. The BJP government also provides fi nancial support for the girl child during all phases of her education,” he said.
He also spent a reasonable amount of time criticizing MIM. He said that the Asaduddin Owaisi-led party was keen on dividing people along religious lines and has been the primary reason for the backwardness of Muslims though it claims to represent the community. “We do not distinguish between Hindus and Muslims in Madhya Pradesh. People of both the communities should come together for progress. It is only possible under the BJP’s rule,” Chouhan said.
He didn’t spare the Congress either and criticized it for various scams including the Coalgate and Adarsh housing fraud. The CM further termed the allegations against Robert Vadra as “Jijaji scam”. About Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, who he referred to as the puppet of Sonia Gandhi, Chouhan said: “I ask Manmohan Singh why he wishes to remain in Congress when he has to face insults every day.”
Of course there were many references to Modi too, with the party leader urging the people to make Modi the Prime Minister. He claimed that if that happened the country would have 24-hour power supply and women would get 33 per cent reservation in all assembly and parliamentary segments.
Baddam Bal Reddy, who is his hoping to win after MIM decided to rest three-time MLA Muqtada Khan, also spoke on the occasion and urged constituents to vote MIM out of Hyderabad.
