Mahakali actors Gagan Kang, Arjit Lawania killed in road accident; here is what had happened

Mahakali actors Gagan Kang and Arjit Lawania along with their spot boy were killed when their car lost control and rammed into a stationery trailer on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway at Manor in Palghar district on Saturday (August 19).

Manor police said that Gagan Kang (38) who plays the role of Lord Indra in the mythological serial ‘Mahakali-Anth Hi Aarambh Hai’ was driving the Fiat Linea. His co-star Arjit Lavania (30), who plays ‘Nandi’ in the serial was seated beside him.

Their spot boy, who has not been identified yet, was on the rear seat. They were returning to their Goregaon home from their studio in Umbergaon in Gujarat.

At around 11.15 am, when the car was on the Chillar Phata, near Hotel Mountain on the highway at Manor, Kang lost control of his vehicle. He went and crashed into the rear end of a stationery trailer parked alongside the road.

Eye-witnesses said that such was the impact of the crash that the car roof smashed into the trailer before turning reverse. When the car came to a halt it was facing towards Gujarat.

The victims were killed on the spot. Police said that the driver of the trailer was detained but it has emerged that the trailer was correctly parked on the siding of the road.

Police said that the Kang was found dead on the driver’s seat. Beer cans and snacks were found on the front and rear seats.

Police said that the driver was over speeding as per the indications displayed on the car. Police said that they have not ruled out the possibility of drunken driving as beer cans were found in the vehicle.

Police said that they are awaiting autopsy report to determine if the driver was drunk. A case of accidental death has been registered.

Police said that the cell phones of the victims were smashed in the accident. It took them a while to get hold of Kang’s SIM card, following which his mother and brother were informed.
