US issues highest ‘Level 4 - Do Not Travel’ warning for over 20 countries: See full list
The US has issued its highest travel advisory, Level 4: “Do Not Travel,” for more than two dozen countries, advising American citizens to steer clear of travel there due to serious extreme safety and security issues. This warning comes from the U.S. State Department and reflects serious concerns about conditions that could threaten life and limit the government’s ability to assist citizens in emergencies.
Travel advisories are released to guide US citizens in making informed decisions about overseas travel by providing updates on safety and security conditions in various countries. They are regularly assessed and are updated or reissued whenever meaningful changes on the ground arise that may impact the safety of travellers.
Travel Gov took to X to share the following, "We issue Travel Advisories with Levels 1 – 4. Level 4 means Do Not Travel. We assign Level 4 based on local conditions and/or our limited ability to help Americans there. These places are dangerous. Do not go for any reason. "
What is a Level 4 warning?Level 4, labelled 'Do Not Travel,' is the highest level of warning among the State Department’s four travel advisory categories. It applies to destinations where life-threatening risks are likely and where the US Government’s ability to assist citizens is extremely limited, including in medical or emergency situations.

In many Level 4 destinations, local healthcare, emergency response systems, and security infrastructure are severely under-resourced or non-functional, which further compounds the danger and reduces the US Government’s ability to help.
Level 4: Do Not Travel
These are the countries to which travel should be avoided, as of now, because of a various reasons like armed conflict, crime, and more.
As of the beginning of 2026, the following countries have been currently listed as Level 4: Do Not Travel by the US State Department primarily due to significant safety and security issues:
