From Visa Temple to Airplane Gurudwara; 5 most weird temples ever built in India

India is a country of unusual attractions which can be seen in many forms, including temples. The land is all about mythologies, spiritual traditions and imaginations of devotees. The country is home to some shrines which are so peculiar and unique that they leave people in shock, or sometimes amused.
From Visa temple to Airplane Gurudwara, here are five of the most unique temples ever built in India.

The Visa Baba Temple at Chilkur Balaji – Hyderabad, Telangana

It is one of the most unusual temples ever built in India. Also known as “Visa Balaji,” the temple near Hyderabad is popular among those facing issues in getting a foreign visa. The best part of the temple is that everyone here is treated equally, meaning there are no VIP passes or donations acceptable here. Devotees follow a ritual: after making a wish, they circle the temple 11 times and when they get the desired visa, they come back to the temple and perform 108 circumambulations.

3/6

The Airplane Gurudwara – Jalandhar, Punjab

The name might sound peculiar but there’s a solid reason behind it. The Airplane Gurudwara, also known as Shaheed Baba Nihal Singh Gurudwara, is a beautiful shrine close to Jalandhar city in Punjab. The place is popular among those who wish to travel abroad. They come here, offer toy airplanes in hopes of getting a visa. Once you visit here, you’ll be amazed to see the shelves here filled up with miniature aircraft as symbols of faith.

4/6

The Ravana Temple – Ravangram, Madhya Pradesh

While Ravana is looked upon as a villain in most parts of India, there is a small hamlet in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district, where he is prayed. He is considered the learned king of the village and the temple has an idol of Ravana reclining in a scholarly pose. Locals believe he was a great devotee of Shiva and a brilliant ruler.

5/6

The Chinese Kali Temple – Tangra, Kolkata

The Chinese Kali Temple is in the heart of Tangra, Kolkata’s Chinatown. The temple is a unique fusion of faith where Goddess Kali is worshipped not just with traditional offerings, but also with Chinese cuisine like noodles and fried rice.

6/6

The Amitabh Bachchan Temple – Kolkata, West Bengal

India is probably the only country where one will find a temple dedicated to Bollywood stars! Yes, you read that right. Kolkata is home to a temple dedicated to Bollywood yesteryear heartthrob and evergreen Angry Young Man of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan. The temple was built by an diehard fan club and features a throne and photographs. The temple also has daily aarti rituals for “Big B.”
