Legends suggest that in the Middle Ages a young man named Sajar Nangli and his followers created this lake by digging. The lake is a popular picnic spot and is also considered a sacred lake by the people of Raid Mukhta. They continue to offer sacrifices around the lake, and it is worshipped by a community called Niamtre.

Umhang Lake is surrounded by dense green forests. This lake is attributed to Sajar Nangli, who dined at this spot and drank water from a spring to quench his thirst. He and his followers decided to create a lake unlike any other in the Jaintia Kingdom, so they spent several months digging this magnificent lake. This lake also holds great significance and is considered a gem located in a sylvan setting. Visitors can embark on delightful boat rides across the lake.
