5 most photographed natural monuments in the world to explore in 2026

There are some regions on this planet which are almost too beautiful to be believed. This is because they have turned out to be so visually striking that they have symbolized not only the beauty of the planet, but the act of traveling the world as well. These sites are the reigning monarchs in the kingdom of postcards, social media, travel documentaries, and to-do lists. But when the camera is turned off, they are dynamic places in the process of being shaped by the factors of time, geology, climate, and culture. Whether created by water, wind, or volcanic action, each destination has more to offer than just a picture.
Here are five of the most photographed natural monuments in the world, and why they remain must-explore destinations in 2026.

2/6

Grand Canyon, USA

Few landscapes on the planet are as instantly recognisable as the Grand Canyon. Created after millions of years of erosion by the Colorado River, the massive canyon is more than 440km long. Photographic enthusiasts are attracted to the dramatic light and shade effects in the canyon, particularly during the early morning or late evening hours when the rock faces turn red, orange, and golden. Each spot along the South Rim or the less crowded trails on the North Rim provides an endless supply of beautiful photo opportunities.

3/6

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, China

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is situated in China’s Hunan province. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is one of the most striking and eye-catching scenic spots in the world. These sandstone pillars seem to rise upwards, independently of each other, from the mist-shrouded valleys. These pillars rise upwards to as great a height as over 200 meters and are products of erosion that have taken millions of years.

4/6

Uluru (Ayers Rock), Australia

Uluru rises abruptly from the flat desert plains of Australia's Red Centre, one of the iconic natural landmarks on earth. The huge sandstone monolith is sacred to indigenous Anangu people and, for them, deeply spiritual and culturally significant. Due to its mineral content, the surface of Uluru seems to change colours during the day, ranging from deep ochre to glowing crimson, making it a magnet for photographers.

5/6

Mount Fuji, Japan

Its near symmetrical form makes Mt. Fuji a highly photographed mountain in the world. It stands proud over lakes, forests, and rural settlements and has become an integral part of Japanese art and culture. It looks remarkable throughout the four seasons—snow-topped in winter, cherry blossoms in spring, reflected in the clear lakes of summer, and depicted among vibrant fall foliage in autumn. This makes the mountain so photogenic.

6/6

Cappadocia, Turkey

The otherworldly landscape of Cappadocia is as if it belongs to another planet. Created through volcanic eruptions and millions of years of erosion, fairy chimneys, or cone-shaped rock formations, cover its landscapes, giving it an otherworldly aura, which is nowhere to be found elsewhere on the planet. The most photographed experience in this region is at dawn when hot-air balloons dot the rising landscapes, which contain cave dwellings and churches.
