It is a triple celebration at the Prasad household
It was a three-fold celebration for cricket commentator Venkatesh Prasad, his wife Jayanti Prasad, and their son Prithviraj. While Venkatesh and Jayanthi celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary, Jayanti’s mother, the effervescent 93-year-old Sathyabhama Krishnan, celebrated her birthday and Prithvi’s 26th birthday at an iconic five star Chinese bespoke restaurant.
"It’s the first time in 10 years I have been able to get my 93-year-old mother outdoors. Her birthday was on April 18, April 22 is our wedding anniversary, Prithvi’s birthday is tomorrow, and Venky is also taking a break from the IPL. My mother doesn't like to come out. We got her to come out under the pretext of a doctor's visit and then surprised her," says Jayanti.
One learns so much from their elders, she says. "It’s not about running to temples and falling at the feet of priests. What matters is getting the blessings of our elders. She is great; she has no dentures, hearing aids, or glasses; she is super healthy," says the daughter, who feels her mother’s mantra for longevity is "her commitment to a regime of walking, limited food, and staying non judgemental". "When you start wishing well for everybody and eating limited food, life becomes extremely simple," she adds. Sathyabhama cut a cake as part of the celebrations.
Though Venkatesh’s mother is recovering from surgery after being diagnosed with cancer recently, he welcomed the family time. "We just wanted to be together. As for the IPL, surprising teams have come back with a bang; that is what the format is about; it’s about surprises; it’s unscripted drama," he says.
