One of the most interesting characteristics of the dolphin is the way in which it sleeps. Unlike humans, dolphins don’t sleep entirely; instead, they sleep using different sides of their brain. Consequently, they can swim continuously, breathe intentionally, and remain aware of possible dangers.

The Elephant is another animal species that sleeps less than any other creature in the world. They only require up to 2 to 3 hours of sleep per day. Elephants living in the wild do not sleep properly for days while looking for food and water sources across long distances.

Some of the species that sleep the least are birds. Among them, swifts can go to sleep while flying. In other words, some species of swifts are capable of napping while flying. This incredible ability helps them stay in constant motion especially during long migrations, without needing extended periods of rest.

Another animal that requires little sleep is the Deer. The Deer only rests for 2-3 hours per day but takes several short naps instead of prolonged sleep periods. In order to stay aware of the surroundings and avoid becoming someone’s dinner, the Deer cannot afford to sleep much.

One of the unique characteristics of the Bullfrog is that it does not get much sleep. Research indicates that the Bullfrog remains alert throughout its resting period and does not go into a deep sleep mode like other organisms.

It is well known for its capability to sleep while standing up since doing so makes it easier for it to escape danger. Normally, horses only spend 2 to 3 hours sleeping in a day while taking cat-naps during daytime. The leg structure of the horse allows it to lock its joints while sleeping while standing.

The Giraffe is among the animals that require the least amount of sleep in the world. In spite of their huge bodies, giraffes spend less than 30 minutes to 2 hours sleeping per day, mostly in short bursts of time lasting a few minutes each time. Sleep deprivation keeps them alert and ready to defend themselves against any predators.
