Among the many remarkable women in Ramayana, one is always less spoken of and she was the wife of Shatrughna, Lord Rama's youngest brother. Her holy marriage to Shatrughna was a sign of mutual respect, between the two humble and noble clans, that were Ayodhya and Mithila, and yet again tightened the bond of virtue and blood between them. This shows that once upon a time, love and respect formed the foundation of kingdoms.

The life of Shrutakirti, like that of her husband, was also one of silent devotion. Shatrughna was a man of duty and obligation to his brothers, particularly Bharata. When Lord Rama defeated the demon Lavanasura, he commissioned Shatrughna as king of Mathura. That is when Shrutakirti joined her husband to the newly formed kingdom. The two of them established a thriving kingdom on the principles of truth and kindness. Where Shatrughna dealt with state matters, Shrutakirti dealt with the palace and society with sense and kindness.
Their reign was known for fairness and peace, reflecting the shared values of the royal family of Ayodhya. Shrutakirti’s presence in Mathura ensured that the moral traditions of Mithila and Ayodhya continued to thrive together.
