Rules to follow when having a Tulsi plant at home

Embraced for centuries in Hindu traditions, the Tulsi plant is not just a sacred herb but also a symbol of positivity and harmony. This green companion is believed to possess various benefits, from promoting a peaceful environment to offering medicinal advantages. In this article, we explore the benefits of having a Tulsi plant at home and the essential rules to ensure its prosperity.

2/9

Benefits of Tulsi Plant:

Tulsi, or Holy Basil, is more than just a religious symbol; it is revered for its numerous benefits. Beyond its spiritual significance, a Tulsi plant is known to act as a natural air purifier, absorbing harmful pollutants like carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide. The plant's continuous oxygen production enhances the air quality, fostering a healthier living space. Additionally, Tulsi is renowned in Ayurveda for its medicinal properties, offering relief from various ailments such as cancer, heart diseases, skin problems, and respiratory issues.

3/9

Direction Matters:

According to Vastu Shastra, placing the Tulsi plant in the east direction is crucial. This ensures the plant receives sufficient sunlight, contributing to its overall health. Avoid placing it in the south direction, as this may attract negative energies, leading to potential losses or disturbances in married life.

4/9

Respect the Sacred:

Treat the Tulsi plant with reverence. Avoid placing items like brooms, dustbins, or shoes near it. This ensures the sanctity of the plant is maintained.

5/9

Platform Placement:

Elevate the Tulsi plant by keeping it on a platform higher than the base of your home. This placement is considered auspicious and aligns with Vastu principles.

6/9

Avoid Dry Tulsi:

Dried-out Tulsi plants are believed to bring bad luck. Promptly replace them with new ones to maintain positive energy. If the Tulsi plant dries up, dispose of it in a holy river or water body.

7/9

Offerings and Beliefs:

Refrain from offering Tulsi leaves to Lord Shiva, as Tulsi is considered the wife of Shankhchud, who was defeated by Lord Shiva.

In ancient Hindu mythology, a demon named Jalandhar and his devoted wife Vrinda posed a grave threat to Devis and Devtas, creating a tumultuous existence. Unable to find a direct solution, the Deities sought the guidance of Lord Shiva. To outsmart the demon, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Jalandhar, deceiving Vrinda, who was a staunch devotee. Believing she touched her husband's feet in reverence, Vrinda's virtue was inadvertently broken. Seizing this moment, Lord Shiva engaged in a fierce battle with Jalandhar, ultimately defeating the demon as Vrinda's virtuousness crumbled. Realizing the deception, Vrinda cursed Lord Vishnu to transform into a stone, known as Saligram in Puranas. With the demise of Jalandhar, the predicament of Devis and Devtas was resolved, and Vrinda received a boon to be reborn as the Holy Basil. Due to her refusal to have Lord Shiva worshipped with any part belonging to her, Tulsi leaves are not offered to Lord Shiva, while Lord Vishnu's puja is considered incomplete without them.

8/9

Optimal Numbers:

Vastu suggests keeping Tulsi plants in odd numbers, such as one, three, or five, to maximize positive results. The preferred count aligns with the principles of harmony and balance.

9/9

Sunlit Spaces:

Choose a location for your Tulsi plant that receives ample sunlight and provides the necessary elements for its growth. Placing it in a northeast-facing window or balcony is ideal as per Vastu guidelines.
