Things you should never say to your colleagues

Often when we are too comfortable at our workplace and have made many friends, we tend to forget that they are still colleagues and there is a decorum you must maintain. When that line blurs, you can become a laughing stock and people tend to take you for granted in certain arenas as well. So here are a few things you must not do along with a few conversations you must not have with your co-workers.

It is good to compliment when appropriate but be very selective. Even if you think that her or his pants fit him well, keep it to yourself as commenting on anyone’s physical appearance is not taken well by many. It could also be translated into sexual harassment sometimes.

Whether you are a team lead or any one senior, it does not mean that you can get away with negative commentary on different topics especially like religion, politics or how that female has been bringing up her kid! This is unprofessional and not recommended.

If she is healthy, it does not mean she is pregnant! This question can be very insulting. In case she is, she will tell you when she wants to. Just keep the thought in your head until the person confirms the same herself.

This is one line that must not be said because your question is hopefully related to work and you are approaching them because they are in authority. You are not a “bother”. If you know you are disturbing them then do not simply disturb them. Saying sorry yet doing it makes no sense. Just ask if he or she has a moment to speak to you.

You say I think only when you are unsure, otherwise these two words make you appear wishy washy. Plus it is not an example of good English. When you know something, eliminate the two words and say what you have to.

You do not and you should not discuss your personal relationship with anyone at work. Heard of “too much information”? Keep that conversation for your friends or whoever outside work. Only those who like “masala” will take interest and then spice it up and share it with others.
