Give these treats to your pups to beat the heat

If you have a pet, you know that treats are always a good idea. Whether it is a reward while training the pet or someone new trying to forge a bond or you just want to pamper your furry companion – treats are something that will always come in handy. Some of the best snacks for your dogs are the ones that you can easily find in your kitchen. Just like humans, animals need their share of fibre and antioxidants too. So go ahead and let your pets also indulge in the goodness of summer fruits but be careful that the treats should not replace the main meal. Any kind of treat should only constitute 10% of a dog's diet.

Here are 5 treats that you can include in your pets’ diet

2/6

Berries

Sweet, tangy, and juicy – berries make for super handy treats for your pet dogs. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc are a perfect summer snack - low in calories, high in fiber, and full of antioxidants and vitamin C. Make sure to wash them thoroughly before feeding to your pet. Also, do not feed your pet the store-bought canned berries – those may contain sugar which is toxic for dogs.

3/6

Mango

Mango – the sweetest gift of summer. Mango is the most perfect summer treat for dogs as it contains both beta-carotene and alpha-carotene. It also packs in multiple vitamins - A, C, E, and B6. As always, remember to wash thoroughly and give only in moderation.

4/6

Cucumber

Cucumber is a very cooling, fibrous, and hydrating treat and it is essential for your pet. A very healthy option for overweight dogs, cucumbers have little to no carbohydrates, oils or fats and boost hydration and energy levels. They are also loaded with potassium, magnesium, copper and biotin and beneficial vitamins like K, C, and B1. Here’s how you can give it to your pets -wash thoroughly, peel the skin, and cut the sides to avoid bitterness; cut small cubes and feed your furry friend.

5/6

Honey

Honey is said to have antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties that can reduce inflammation, soothe ulcers, and provide some relief in case of sore throats. It can be a very delicious and useful snack for dogs – but it must be given in very small quantities. Stay away from commercially available, mass-produced honey, and always buy organic, natural, and additive-free honey for your pet. It is also recommended to consult your vet before you offer honey to your dog.

6/6

Peanut Butter (Xylitol Free)

Peanut butter is probably the tastiest and healthiest treat for dogs. You can add it to make smoothies too for your furry friend. As a snack – you can give unsalted, sugar-free peanut butter as it is to your pet and see them licking the spoon off. When given in moderation, peanut butter can be a wonderful source of protein, healthy fats, vitamin B, vitamin E, and niacin.
