Cuddle buddies

In today’s fast-paced world, where relationships are fragile and time is a luxury, loneliness has quietly become one of the most common human experiences. As people chase their next big goal or move cities in search of better opportunities, many return home to an echoing silence that is too loud to bear for some.

For many, pets fill that void. Among them, dogs have long stood out as loyal, loving companions. But while all dogs are capable of affection, some breeds are especially known for their love of cuddles and physical closeness. Stanley Coren, a renowned psychologist from the University of British Columbia, explored these differences in his book The Intelligence of Dogs. His research shows that certain breeds crave human touch more than others. Based on those findings, here’s a list of ten dog breeds that are particularly affectionate and are certified cuddle bugs-

2/11

Labrador Retriever

It’s no surprise Labs top the list—these gentle giants are people pleasers through and through. Known for their loyalty and loving nature, Labradors are happiest when they’re right beside their humans.

3/11

Golden Retriever

With their sunny disposition and never-ending patience, Goldens are incredibly affectionate with kids, adults, and even strangers. If you want a loyal, snuggly companion with a heart of gold, this is your dog.

4/11

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

These small, soulful-eyed dogs adore being held, snuggled, and doted on. Their sweet and gentle demeanor makes them especially great for families or individuals looking for a constant cuddle buddy.

5/11

Shih Tzu

Teddy bear looking Shih Tzus may have a regal past, but they’re total softies at heart. These fluffballs were literally bred to be companion dogs, which means they don’t just like being around people—they need it. They love climbing into your lap, sleeping by your side, and getting belly rubs galore.

6/11

Pug

Pugs are pure charm wrapped in wrinkles. These little goofballs are obsessed with human contact. Their expressive eyes and silly personalities only make them more endearing. Be prepared for a dog that follows you everywhere and demands all the cuddles.

7/11

Newfoundland

These massive dogs are gentle, cuddly giants. Nicknamed “nanny dogs” for their sweet nature around children, they’re incredibly affectionate and intuitive. They’ll lean on you for pets, nudge your arm for attention, and calmly sit by your feet just to be close.

8/11

French Bulldog

Frenchies may look grumpy, but they’re secretly snuggle addicts. These compact dogs have big personalities and even bigger hearts. They love curling up next to you, especially under blankets, and make excellent companions for small spaces like apartments.

9/11

Dachshund

Dachshunds may be small, but their affection is mighty. While they were originally bred for hunting, they’ve evolved into loving companions that get very attached to their humans. They're loyal, protective, and love a good cuddle session just as much as playtime.

10/11

Bichon Frisé

With their cloud-like coats and cheerful personalities, Bichons are practically made for cuddling. These dogs are playful, loving, and deeply people-oriented. Bichons will happily curl up on your lap, rest in your arms, or sleep with their face tucked against your chest, plus they don't shed much, making them perfect pets.

11/11

Boxer

Boxers may be bouncy and full of energy, but they’re also total lovebugs. Underneath that muscular frame is a heart of mush. They’re known for being especially gentle with kids and fiercely loyal to their people. Boxers are happy to curl up beside you and rest their big heads in your lap.
