How to deal with rejection in love

1/7

The right way to handle rejection in love

Not everyone can easily overcome rejection in love. And we have enough stories of unrequited love and Bollywood movies to prove that (remember the Salman Khan-starrer 'Tere Naam'?). But one cannot deny that rejection is a part of life, and you have to learn to handle the situation effectively rather than trying to escaping from it. Here are a few tips on how mentally-strong people handle rejection in their love life and evolve as a better person.

2/7

They acknowledge their emotions

Rejection hurts but the key to get through this phase is by acknowledging your emotions. Mentally-strong people stay honest to themselves and accept how they are feeling. They adopt the 'right coping' mechanism to overcome their emotions like sadness, anger or embarrassment involving rejection.

3/7

A single rejection does not define them

Strong-minded people understand that a rejection does not define them or their life. If their crush ignores them, they do not start believing that it's the end of the world and they do not deserve to be loved. They work on improving themselves and do not seek validation from others.

4/7

Friends and family

They do not let their harsh inner critic bog them down, and get drowned in negative thoughts. Rather than overthinking about the issue, they share their true feelings with a close friend or family member and look for ways to feel better.

5/7

They practice gratitude

Rather than overanalysing what all went wrong and how they could have done things differently, smart people view the overall scenario. They count their blessings and believe that a single rejection is not the end of the road. They understand that there is nothing wrong with them; the other person was simply looking for something else. In fact, they do not take everything personally and know when to keep their emotions aside and look at the situation pragmatically. Most importantly, they are hopeful life has better things in store for them.

6/7

They learn their lesson

Smart people use rejection as an opportunity to learn and grow as an individual. They might deal with the situation by recognising the areas where they can improve. They see it as an experience and move on in life with more wisdom.

7/7

Try reframing

Your thoughts have the power to govern your mood and even life. Instead of focusing on negative thoughts, try to reframe them in a positive way. For example, instead of thinking ‘I am not made for relationships and no one would ever love me’, reframe it like, “Relationships are never easy and require hard work from both the partners to make it work. I must focus on what I can learn and not repeat the same mistake.”
