Here is how you can do it

There are times when your mother-in-law is feeling low, moody and sad. The festive season comes with a lot of pressure too so that too can add to the glumness. It could also be that some old memories are bothering her or she has had a fight with someone… Instead of leaving her alone, try these 5 things that can cheer her up and even you will feel good about it.

2/6

Sit and spend time with her

The truth is that you should treat your mother-in-law the way you would treat your own mother when she is feeling low. Sit with her, talk to her, be around. Even if you have to work, take your laptop and sit next to her. At times, even some company does the trick. You could always strike a conversation ith her, you know what to do when you are there.

3/6

Try cooking a new dish with her

If your mother-in-law likes to cook, ask her if she can teach you something or you can also suggest trying a new recipe from a cookbook together. The fact that you are asking for her involvement, taking her advice, can make her feel good. At this age, parents become like kids. The retired parents feel useless after a while so you must look at ways to involve them in your life.

4/6

Pamper date

Go on a date together and get yourselves pampered. Book an entire day in the spa or a salon, or call the salon services at home. A whole day of massages, pedicures, grooming etc, lifts the mood of the saddest of people.

5/6

Shopping

Many people like retail therapy. Even if it is a big supermarket, you can always take your mother-in-law there. Make a list of what all you may need or simply see what you like there as nowadays there are so many options available. With so many festivals around, get gifts for people you have to give perhaps.

6/6

Albums and old pictures

You can always ask your mother-in-law to show you her old pictures when she was a baby, in college and other different phases of life. If she has her marriage album ask if you can see those.
