Though women constitute half of the human population, they are seldom appreciated for their contribution in the family or society. To honour women rights and appreciate women in our lives, the I international W omen's day is widely celebrated across the world on March 8 every year. International Women's Day is a day of hope and reflection of celebration of women and gender parity in our society. This day was first 'officially' celebrated in 1911; in some countries like Denmark and Austria it was celebrated by men and women on March 19. The United States of America celebrated National Women's Day on February 28, 1909 till the year 1913; in Russia women also celebrated this day on the last Sunday of February in 1913. It was in 1914 that the International Women's Day was celebrated in Germany and London on March 8, 1914. However, it was in 1975 when the United Nations (UN) adopted a resolution of celebrating a United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace day to be observed anytime during the year by its member states. It was only in 1977, when March 8 was proclaimed as the International Women's Day. And since then, the awareness regarding this day has increased many fold over the years and this important day is now widely being accepted and celebrated through the world.

International Women's Day is about honour ing the women in your life-- your mother, sister, girlfriend/ partner or wife, friend, colleague- and make them feel special by sharing these images, quotes, wishes and greeting cards with them.
