What's the most frustrating dating trend that many people are unaware of?

We all have read about some very cringe-worthy dating trends like benching, ghosting, breadcrumbing, etc. But did you know there is one dating trend that can be very frustrating and the worse part is, most people might have experienced it at least once. If you are wondering what it could be, let us break it down for you—it is called 'whelming', which is described as an online dating trend when a prospective partner, whom a person has matched in a dating app, keeps talking or dropping hints about the other people he or she had matched online so that the prospective partner ends up believing that person is in big demand! In simple words, 'whelming' can be defined as an act where one person manipulates the other so that he or she appears desirable in front of the other person. Seems pretty relatable, right?

2/6

Most dating trends are about manipulation

A lot of people who are looking for love, whether online or offline, become a victim of manipulative partner and they end up realising their mistake too late. From 'benching' (defined as an act where a prospective partner uses another person as an option) to 'ghosting' (the act of ending a romantic relationship suddenly and without explanation by cutting off all communication), most dating trends involve a manipulative partner. And when one becomes a victim of such manipulative partners, he or she can be scarred for life. So, let's look at a few signs that say you are with a manipulative partner.

3/6

They often contradict their words

Be very careful if you often catch a person, who is trying to woo you, contradicting his words. Manipulative people are often very inconsistent about what they say and this is one of the most easily-recognisable traits of such people. Whether you meet a prospective partner online or through friends, at social gathering etc., this one behaviour will be consistent among all who have this manipulative trait in their personality.

4/6

They project themselves as very desirable

Does the prospective partner often boast of how he or she is chased by many suitors? Does the person often make you feel like he is too good for you and you should be very grateful to have someone like him in your life? If you just answered yes to the above questions, you need to take a step and evaluate the situation that you are in. Manipulative partners have this innate ability to paint a larger-than-life picture of himself, which can often make the other person feel inadequate and irrelevant.

5/6

Your instinct says so

A lot of times, we might miss certain signs but not our instincts. When we are with the wrong person or someone is trying to manipulate us into falling in love, our gut feelings or instinct might give us hints that we are walking into a trap. If you often have such unexplainable fears or instinctive feeling that something is going wrong, you need to trust your gut feelings.

6/6

The sooner you act, the better it would be

The biggest mistake that most people commit even after knowing that they are with a manipulative partner is to not accept that fact. A lot of times, a person who is in love with the wrong partner is often in denial, which makes them stay in that relationship even after knowing there is no future. One needs to be proactive and ask the right questions when he comes across signs that say he is with a manipulative partner. And when the situation demands, the person should have the courage to address the issue and if required, come out of the relationship unscarred.
