Tommy Fleetwood has entered a new era in his life.
After a long string of close calls, the talented English golfer has finally made a breakthrough by winning his first-ever PGA Tour title at the 2025 Tour Championship, securing the coveted FedEx Cup and a massive $10 million prize along the way. And the PGA Tour winner is celebrating his sweet success with the love of his life, by his side – his wife, Clare Fleetwood.
Unknown to many, Tommy Fleetwood found love where he least expected it, right in his own professional circle. His wife, Clare Fleetwood, is not only his partner in life but also his trusted manager. The charismatic couple shares an extraordinary and heartwarming love story, one that defies age differences and societal expectations.
From their first meeting in a professional setting to a deep personal bond, their journey is a blend of trust, ambition, and genuine connection.
As the Fleetwoods savor their latest success, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and look back at their ‘epic’ love saga!
From the first meeting to working together
Tommy and Clare’s story began in 2015 when Clare, then vice-president for Europe at Hambric Sports Management, became Tommy’s manager. The connection sparked through Tommy’s brother, Joe, who worked alongside Clare.
Tommy recalled being familiar with Clare before signing on with the agency, noting, “I get on well with Clare Craig… I’ve chatted to her a lot over the years.”
The initial heartbreak and a lot of hesitation
Tommy’s interest in Clare didn’t go unnoticed, but she hesitated. And why wouldn’t she be? Even in this modern era, we still take a second look at ‘unconventional’ love stories, even if they’re successful and thriving.
On the Performance People podcast, Clare candidly revealed, “We’ve got a 23-year age difference. Of course, I turned him down. I was like, ‘Don’t be stupid.’”
Tommy, persistent and kind, didn’t give up. Over time, a strong connection formed—not just through shared travel and work, but through laughter, shared values, and mutual respect. Tommy later admitted they tried to keep things professional, “but it just didn’t work out that way.”
Tommy’s genuine nature and persistence finally paid off. Clare “eventually gave in,” and their professional collaboration blossomed into romance.
The work-life balance
Once their professional strings got attached to personal wings, the obvious repercussion followed. In fact, the couple carefully considered the implications of shifting from a professional relationship to a romantic one. Entering into a romantic relationship with his manager raised eyebrows, and Clare even considered stepping away from her professional role. She admitted, “At the beginning thought I couldn’t and I shouldn’t,” but a six-month trial period proved they could manage both roles successfully. Fortunately, for the couple, this balance would become a hallmark of their partnership's strength.
Their shared sense of humor, strong work ethic, and common working-class roots formed the foundation of not just their relationship but their partnership – both on and off the golf course.
Stepping into a new chapter
Love quietly blossomed between Tommy and Clare and transformed into a stronger bond. By mid-2017, Tommy and Clare’s love story had entered a new chapter. Clare cheekily confirmed their engagement on social media with, “My fiancé @TommyFleetwood1.” Tommy didn’t take long to reciprocate the same with warmth and appreciation.
In December, the same year, the couple exchanged vows in a private beachfront ceremony in the Bahamas, surrounded by close family members. The nuptials took place just months after their son Franklin, also known as Frankie, was born in September 2017.
The big blended families
Frankie isn’t Clare’s first experience with motherhood. She had two sons from a previous relationship, Oscar and Murray (Mo), who are now integral members of the family and the Fleetwoods. To add to the joy, Tommy embraced his role as a stepfather wholeheartedly. Now teenage golf enthusiasts in their own right, Oscar and Mo have a close bond with Tommy, who steadfastly views them not as stepchildren, but as his own. In fact, when Oscar made his Challenge Tour debut in April 2024, Tommy proudly served as his caddie. Tommy has often been quoted as saying, “When the five of us are together, that’s always our safe space,” a testament to their blended, unified family.
However, people’s judgment seems to follow them everywhere. The age gap between them and Clare’s older children often drew raised eyebrows, something Tommy has jokingly referred to as “the look.” To everyone’s delight, he sees it differently: "I feel unbelievably lucky” to have such a close bond with all three boys. In fact, Tommy jokes that people often do a double-take when he says his kids are 17, 16, and six years old. But for him, family comes first: "I never really think of them as step-kids. I'm unbelievably lucky with the relationship that we have."
Sharing life, building legacy
The Fleetwoods keep dishing out ‘couple goals’ now and then, on and off the court. Tommy credits Clare’s calming presence and sound judgment for keeping him focused, especially amid the pressures of tournament play. He often describes her as the ‘steadying force’, saying having “that calming side, that reality check … she judges situations a lot better than I do when I’m playing all the time.”
Clare has been by his side at many key events, offering both emotional and strategic support. Whether at the Ryder Cup or fans’ favorite tournaments, she’s there, proudly and steadfastly.
Despite public commentary around their age difference, neither Clare nor Tommy let it shake them. Their mutual respect for each other, and shared love have made their “unusual” love story far from cliché; one that’s uniquely theirs, full of resilience, humor, and genuine joy.
