Non-sexual ways to increase intimacy

If you thought having sex with your partner is the only way to get intimate with him or her, then you might be wrong. Intimacy in a relationship is not limited to getting physical and sometimes, a partner’s sweet gestures can do wonders. Here are some simple and non-sexual ways to come closer to your significant other and strengthen your relationship.

2/8

A romantic dinner

Instead of heading to a high-end restaurant, cook your lover’s favourite meal at home. Dress up, switch off the lights, play some music and put on some aromatic candles. After exchanging some sweet nothings over a hearty meal, go for a stroll or play some romantic song and slow dance with your partner. We bet it would turn out to be a night to remember.

3/8

What about a massage?

Take your partner by surprise by giving him or her a sensual back or foot massage. Look for the basic massage techniques online, thrown in some aromatic oils, sprinkle rose petals on the bed and let your moves do all the talking.

4/8

Handwritten letter

The charm of a handwritten love letter is still irreplaceable in today’s world. Think about what makes you fall in love with your partner every day, when was the first time you realised he or she is the one and share the same idea of a future of togetherness. Now, pour all your feelings in a letter. We assure you, this gesture, which is better than any expensive gift, would increase your emotional intimacy.

5/8

Series of sweet texts

If writing a letter is not your cup of tea, here’s another alternative. Select a day and send multiple texts (preferable one every hour) to your partner, each one giving a new reason why he or she is the perfect partner for you. Fill your message with details and end the day with a surprise gift.

6/8

Try doing your partner’s favourite activity

Does your partner love painting? Does he or she go to play tennis every evening? Or, loves dancing? Well, try doing your partner's favourite activity for a day. It would give you a chance to connect with him or her over a new thing, spend quality time together and make happy memories.

7/8

Pretend that you just met!

In case you both have been dating for quite some time, you can try re-enacting your first date. Go to that same place again, order the same food and pretend you have just met. You might laugh thinking how shy you were when your relationship started and feel proud thinking how long you both have come together.

8/8

Practice gratitude

This is something that would help to strengthen the foundation of your relationship and bring you both emotionally closer. Look for reasons to express gratitude to your partner every night before sleeping. It could be washing the clothes, helping in household chores, planning a vacation or simply cooking a nice meal that morning, no partner hates being appreciated.
