The art of detachment

Be it Shri Krishna in the Bhagwad Gita or Buddha, they teach about the art of letting go and being detached in life in order to have inner peace and contentment-- and this holds true even today. So, here we list five ways one can learn the art of detachment and practice it in life to have peace of mind.

2/6

Accept people as they are

Instead of expecting others to change or behave in a certain way, learn to accept them as they are. This would reduce your expectations from them, and in turn, help you stay detached from them. It will also improve your relationships with them in the long run.

3/6

Understand that no one is permanent in your life

People come and go, however it is you who is always going to be constant with yourself. And so, the earlier one realises and learns that people aren't permanent in our life, the better. Accepting that not all relationships are meant to last and bring freedom and peace in our lives.

4/6

Set healthy boundaries

Being detached in relationships doesn't mean that one has to be selfish or unkind to others. Instead, it means that one should set healthy boundaries as an act of self-love and self-care. Detachment is about creating space for your well-being, while still caring for other people in your life. It teaches us to be kind to others, without being too attached to them or losing ourselves in the process.

5/6

Accept situations and outcomes, even if they aren't favourable

Accepting outcomes and situations in life that go against one's will shows our maturity in life. It also teaches us detachment and having faith, which is much needed to be at peace.

6/6

Focus on self-love

An important key to practice detachment in life is to stay centered. Give the love, time, space, and energy you give to others to yourself instead and see how this self-love transforms your life. By practising self-love and detachment, one can learn that they are responsible for their own happiness in life and not others.
