Here is how you can handle them

We all have sets of annoying relatives who are there at every gathering and we cannot cut them off because they are more like Betaal to our Vikram. Dealing with an annoying relative can be challenging so if you suffer from fried brains due to some relatives then here are 5 awesome ways to handle them like a pro!

Set boundaries
2/6

Set boundaries

If your relative's behaviour is bothering you, it's essential to communicate your boundaries clearly. Let them know the things that you find unacceptable and explain the consequences if they continue. You do not have to be rude. Just have a sit-down and tell them that you want to coexist in peace but certain things are off limits.

Avoid triggers
3/6

Avoid triggers

If you know that certain topics or situations will set off your relatives, try to avoid them. For example, if your relative always argues about politics, avoid discussing politics around them. They love asking you when you will “settle down”, just smile and say you have work, get up and leave. The best is to not respond until they themselves give up.

Stay calm
4/6

Stay calm

It's easy to get emotional when dealing with an annoying relative, but try to stay calm. Take deep breaths or walk away for a few minutes to cool off before engaging with them.

Practice empathy
5/6

Practice empathy

Sometimes, people act annoyingly because they are struggling with something in their own lives. Try to put yourself in their shoes and understand where they are coming from. This is a lot to ask, but once you try this, you will know what we mean here.

Seek support
6/6

Seek support

If the situation becomes too challenging to handle on your own, seek support from other family members or a therapist. Having someone to talk to can help you process your feelings and develop coping strategies. We would first suggest you talk to your parents about this because they are your relatives because of them in the first place. They may have a better suggestion because they know both you and those relatives. In addition, you have less on your conscience because you did tell your parents what is bothering you about them.
