5 reasons why more marriages are failing

Can you relate to these?

Divorce nowadays is no more a taboo in a sense as more and more people are realising that they no longer have to stay in a marriage that makes them unhappy. There are several factors besides the obvious ones because both men and women are now seeking mental peace. About 40% of marriages end in dissolution, and around 1 million couples cut the cord every year, according to a 2015 study in Psychosomatic Medicine. Scroll down to know what these 5 reasons are. Can you relate to them?

2/6

Lack of love

We often forget to say I love you to our partners after marriage! We take them for granted and slowly the affection we once showered on our partners diminishes, and this is a leading cause of divorce. According to a 2020 study in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, in a survey of 2,371 divorcees, nearly half blamed lack of love and intimacy. Being emotionally unavailable is a valid reason for divorce.

3/6

Different needs in the bedroom

Sometimes, with time, we have different needs in the bedroom. There are many couples who want an open marriage, or most commonly have mismatched sex drives. Sexual incompatibilities can drive a wedge between you and your partner.

4/6

Infidelity

Cheating or infidelity is a very common reason for divorce. When anyone steps out of the marriage to get their needs met (that could be sexual or emotional), it is a step towards the doom of your marriage. Restoring trust is no joke. According to a 2013 Couple & Family Psychology study, most divorcees said infidelity was a significant contributing factor in their decision to split.

5/6

Contempt of your partner

No partner is perfect and we all know so. We have to accept them with their flaws too. But, issues arise when we start seeing our partner as someone beneath us. That is a major red flag. Those eye rolls, sneering, name-calling and put-downs are all very destructive and often lead to a divorce.

6/6

Any kind of abuse

Physical abuse is ofcourse unacceptable but what people do not realise is that emotional abuse is also intolerable. That need for control, demand but no supply in terms of needs or anything for that matter, irresponsibility, gaslighting, blame game, anger outburst, are all ways of emotional abuse. Those who realise this have started acting on it and they file for divorce.
