Tips on being the best mother-in-law ever!

We all wish for good in-laws but it may or may not be possible. If you want to be a good mother-in-law yourself, don’t make the hurtful mistakes your own mother-in-law made. Make sure you keep these 5 pieces of advice so that you enjoy a healthy relationship with your son/daughter-in-law.

2/6

Play fair

This is very important. If you are giving something to your daughter and son in front of your daughter-in-law then you must give something to her too and it should be an equally nice gift. You cannot show inequality because in the end she too is your child now.

3/6

Don’t take sides

If the couple is fighting, do not interfere unless required. And if you do, do not take sides with your own kid and single out the other, making her/him feel left out and alone.

4/6

Don’t be nosy

Asking how the day went or the trip go is good and important too but asking for the minute details is suffocating. Let them tell you themselves. In the end just say that as long as all went well, it was all good.

5/6

Don’t gossip about your daughter or son-in-law

This is a mistake which most mother-in-laws make and it does make things worse. Don’t talk about your daughter/son-in-law in a negative light with anyone. It not only comes back and falls on their ears too but it also convinces you that he/she is bad, further ruining the relationship from your end.

6/6

Put reminders of dates important to him/her too

Be it a job promotion or birthday or his/her parent’s anniversary, birthday etc, if you cannot remember them, put reminders on your phone or on a calendar you often refer to. These small things matter a lot to everyone. Won’t you feel nice if your in-laws wish you at the right time too?
