From Instagram reels to multi-day destination weddings

In India, a wedding is not just between two individuals, but it is a union of their respective families too. And so, it is an elaborate event for many-- from dance and music to lavish decor and clothing. No wonder then, that the Indian wedding market is a booming sector which sees some major trends each year. As the year comes to an end and another is just about to begin, we list some major wedding trends of 2025 which might also be seen in 2026. Read on to know more:

Gold and silver will continue to shine

Despite gold and silver rates hitting an all-time high in 2025, people continue to purchase it for weddings. Gold and silver ornaments are a big 'Yes' in Indian weddings, and people will continue buying them, despite their high price.

Lavish weddings are still a hit

In 2025, apart from celebrities, people from the upper-middle-class and middle-class continued spending on lavish weddings. According to WedMeGood, the amount of money people spent on weddings in 2025 increased by 8%, and the average budget rose to around INR 39.5 lakhs.

Destination weddings are a hit

Looks like the big, fat Indian weddings keep getting bigger with each passing year and more people are now opting for picture-perfect destination weddings. Talking about this, Mehak Shahani, WedMeGood co-founder, told PTI, "One in every four weddings in 2025 was a destination event...Among weddings with budgets over Rs 1 crore, more than 60% were destination celebrations. Last year, the average destination wedding cost around Rs 51.1 lakh, but in 2025 it rose to about Rs 58 lakh.”

Some popular destinations for weddings in India include Jaipur, Mussoorie and Goa, while international places include Vietnam, Thailand, among others.

Wedding photography gets candid

Over the years, its not just weddings but its photography too which has evolved for the better. People are now opting for more Instagram-worthy and candid pictures, and videos or reels that tell their story in their own way. "Candid, documentary-led narratives continue to dominate,” Harsheen Jammu, co-founder of luxury wedding photography Ombre, told Mathrubhumi.

Customised details

From decor to return gifts, customisation is gaining popularity among couples getting married soon or those who married in 2025. “Personalisation is at an an all-time high, with custom details and bespoke decor offering more intimate storytelling moments," Harsheen Jammu, co-founder of Ombre, further said, reported Mathrubhumi.
