Don’t care about how others judge you

This lesson was taught to us by none other than Sweetu, played by Delnaaz Irani. No matter what kind of judgements people made, how they questioned her love for food, her desire to fit into the sexiest of outfits, she did not give a damn! Her character inspired many of us that no matter what people think of you, it is important to be confident and believe in yourself and live your life on your own terms. Love from your heart, be yourself and you will attract the right person. Sacrificing your self love for anyone can easily be ruled out.

Here's what we can learn

It was 19 years ago when Naina, Rohit & Aman walked into our lives and gave us several life lessons about the way we live our lives. It was indeed a trendsetter, a different concept altogether which addressed many issues. Some of them may have been portrayed light-heartedly due to the times we were in but there were so many goals floating all over the movie, speaking to so many of us. Here we bring to you the love lessons this movie gave us. Read on and let us know your opinion in the comments section below.

Love has no age bar

No matter what your age is and even if you are an old widower or widow, love can happen anytime. Sushma Seth & Dara Singh’s characters in the movie have a love story going on where Dara Singh’s Uncle Chaddha keeps looking at ways to woo Lajjo Kapur and at the time of the release it was shown in a funny light but the truth is that it is possible and should be accepted! The “budhi ghodi laal lagaam” is not the right saying. Love has no age bar, no limits, it can happen to anyone at any point in time until we are alive.

Don’t just friend zone your best friend

Yes, he or she may be your best friend but them becoming your life partners should not be ruled out. Preity & Saif’s characters were close and knew each other very well but they had friend zoned each other, that it took a major perspective change for them to see each other in a different light. There is no “ew” when it comes to love between a Rahul & Anjali or Rohit & Naina. You can find love in anyone and keeping your best friend out of the picture may just make you lose sight of the soulmate you could have married.

5/6

Wooing is important

Old school wooing is and will always be relevant no matter which era we are in. Taking someone out, sending flowers, complimenting someone are all gestures of love and no matter who the girl or boy is, how tough an exterior they might have, wooing melts people and it is an important element in all relationships. Chaddha ji’s flowers, singing from the window, never rule out any of these gestures in real life either.

True love also means sacrifice

Just because your love is not reciprocated or there is a reason why you cannot be together like Aman’s health issue, it does not mean that you end it there. There are some sacrifices required and you make them automatically when your love is true. You respect the other’s wishes, look out for their happiness and not be vicious. Today, people are running out of patience and they take revenge if the other person is not into you. That is not at all true love. Something we all need to embed or engrave in our heads. Perhaps watch the movie again?
